Lessons were certainly learned form that successful tour, with the main one being, start the planning and fund raising early!
While no doubt some of us will still end up paying for a ticket for a function only a couple of days before it is due to be staged, obviously there are expenses associated with any visit that have to be paid well in advance – air fares being the most obvious.
So take a bow the following people, in no particular order, who have signed up for one of our sponsorship packages Fred Legget, Peter Hart, Gary Cooper, John Linn, Brendan Rogan, Alex Brodie, Vince Macari, Stuart Robertson, Ian Carmichael, Alan Raeburn, John Walker, Will Stirling, Simon Morris, and John Jones.
I won’t go into exactly how much each individual has committed. In case their wives or partners read this (!) but due to the efforts of these fine people the ‘Quiet Man Tour’ bank account currently stands at just over $3866 – a fantastic start by anyone’s reckoning.
This was helped in no small way by Alex Brodie, Stuart Robertson, Will Stirling and Ian Carmichael paying their entire sponsorship in one hit – thanks guys.
However, we’re not in the slightest getting carried away, as there is still much work to be done to raise the required amount to make Pat’s visit as successful as Jimmy O’Rourke’s, and hence why there will be an ongoing series of fund raising ventures.
Obviously two airfares from Edinburgh and just over three week’s accommodation cost a pretty penny, but with the continued support of what has been a very enthusiastic membership, coupled with some planned fund raising ventures, we are confident that we are on track to meet our targets.
Fred Legget
