Well here we are another upcoming season to look forward to with a new management team and a new style of football?
Time will only tell if the Yogi philosophy will shine through and bring success to our team. Playing the ball on the deck and keeping possession with high tempo style is what the supporters crave for with goals galore.
The early signs are there with the passing but we seem to lack that cutting edge in front of goal at the moment.
It will be interesting to see if the laddie Byrne will be given a opportunity to show the world what he can do and prove that age is no barrier when comes to scoring goals.
As I write this our old friend Benji is back with his Tommy cooper hat between his legs and as Hibs are paying his wages I suppose Yogi has nothing to lose, as we know when Benji wants to play he can score goals for fun. I hope to see another two or three new signings to complement the squad which would set us up nicely with competition in every department and that can only be good for the team in the long run.
I am sure John Hughes and Brian Rice know what is required and should be allowed some time to make their mark on the team for the season ahead. Fingers crossed for a successful season ahead and hopefully a cup or two.
We live in hope as always GGTTH

Arthur Duncan.
Born in 1947 in Falkirk, Arthur holds the record for league appearances for Hibs with 446 games, scoring 73 goals along the way. Arthur joined Hibs in 1969 from Partick Thistle and stayed at Easter Road until 1984 when he went to Meadowbank Thistle, retiring in 1987 to return to his job as a chiropodist. Arthur also made six appearances for Scotland during his career, unfortunately playing in a 5-1 defeat from England at Wembley. Amusingly, Arthur reflects that the infamous incident in Copenhagen, which saw five Scotland players thrown out a nightclub and then banned for life by Scotland, could have been six. However rather than join Billy Bremner and co. Arthur went back to the hotel because he was hungry and wanted a sandwich.
People say the highlight of Arthur’s career was being a member of the Turnbull’s Tornados side of the early seventies, winning the League Cup in 1972 and twice finishing runners up in the league. However Arthur always talks about his goal in the Dryborough Cup final as a personal highlight. With Hibs winning, he got the ball wide left with everyone telling him to hold it up in the corner. Arthur recalls, “but me bein’ myself, I headed for goal, and went past 2 defenders and stuck it way…magic feeling.” Another couple of moments that make Arthur a Hibs legend were his 2 goals in Hibs famous 7-0 derby win in 1973 (he got the 3rd and the 5th in 26 and 37 minutes). He also has the distinction of being one of only a handful of Hibs players who have scored Hibs ninth goal in a game –in a 9-2 win over St Johnstone in August 1976-. Arthur also of course has the unwanted distinction of being the first Hibs player since 1902 to score the winner in the Scottish Cup Final. In 1979 Hibs lost 3-2 to Rangers with Arthur’s own goal separating the teams in the second replay.
The Hibs supporters in Belfast recently held an Arthur Duncan Tribute Night in 2008 with Arthur as guest of honour.

Derek Rae
I was reading that Derek Rae has been announced as the commentator for ESPN following the demise of Setanta in the UK. Derek was a good friend to us Ozhibs when he was commentating on the games here and even got in trouble with his bosses for giving us a mention. I remember sitting in Ian Carmichael’s house watching the game with Geoff Smith and Grant Frazer I think, when we heard our names being mentioned being huddled around the telly in the wee small hours, Seems the great unwashed took offence to it.
Derek said, “It’s going to be an interesting time, but I’m not afraid of hard work,” he says. “It would have looked a bit strange if ESPN had bought the SPL rights, and I wasn’t the commentator. I started in Scottish football, and have never lost touch. The internet has been a great help in that respect. I’m looking forward to getting back in the field, having the scent of the game in my nostrils, talking to managers, players, taking in the atmosphere. It’s in my blood. It feels like I have come full circle.”
I wish him well.

Well the new season is just about to kick off and I for one cannot wait till the Hibees get under way. We’ve had a fairly good pre season certainly compared to last year, it’s great to see Zemmama back but he badly needs someone else to help him with the creative work in midfield. Benji I’m not so sure about as I feel he has slapped us in the face but Hey if comes back and starts knocking in the goals I will happily be a 2 faced barsteward.
John Hughes has brought in a few players and said he would like to add “2 or 3 more” We earned a fair bit of money from the sale of Fletcher and I would like to think Rod Petrie will let Yogi spend some of it.
I would like a creative midfielder brought in rather than the workhorses like Cregg, Rankin, Stevenson, McBride, or even Bamba or Ian Murray who I would prefer to see in defense, who knows maybe one of the young lads (Galbraith) will come and do the business for us.
I feel we also need a big experienced defender to replace Rob Jones but it all depends on how Hogg, Bamba, Murray and McCormack shape up. A new striker would also be good as I’m not sold on JJ, and Nish misses too many easy ones,
The youngster Kurtis Byrne looks like he could be one for the future but it may be too much to expect him to last the season without burning himself out, which leaves Deek’s as our main goal scorer and I have no problems with that as he loves to score goals.
I’m excited about the young lads from the under 19’s squad and hope they can make an impact in the first team and develop into great players for us.
Yogi has made Hogg is our new captain for the campaign, I would rather have Ian Murray but for particular reason other than I like the guy and he is a Hibee.
Hibs have signed Graham Stack on a free from Plymouth. He started his career with Arsenal and has played for Beveren, Millwall, Reading on Loan before signing on for Reading permanently and then had further loan spells at Wolves and Leeds. He signed for Plymouth but fell out with Paul Sturrock and so had even more loan spell with Wolves & Blackpool. I did find it funny that it was commented upon his arrival having something to do with giving Maka competition so what was McNeil then especially as Stack has been injured since he arrived? It has probably more to do with the new hibs Goalkeeping coach.
Finally a nice wee cup run would be nice, as I could not stand another season as last year.
